The John Muir Health Auxiliary Gallery will host a show of CWA members. We all have happy memories of places we have been, people we know and things that have special meaning. The theme may be depicted with animals, landscapes, cityscapes, still lifes, nature, abstractions, or figures. Please submit artwork that will spread happiness.

Contra Costa Plein Air is a friendly group of artists who get together to paint at scenic locations around the Bay Area and beyond. The paint-out schedule is random, usually weekdays, with dates and locations inspired by the weather and members' suggestions. New artists are always welcome! There is no fee to participate.

First 2025 Workshop
Mike Hernandez - Painting the Landscape in Gouache - Zoom
January 11-12, 2025, All Skill Levels
Learn to paint the beautiful cool and worm hues of California using gouache or acryla gouache. Painting from photo reference in this two-day workshop, Mike will demonstrate the unique properties and techniques of using this water based medium. Learn to achieve the velvet like qualities of color that is unique to gouache and acryla gouache. Mike will also cover all of the other important fundamentals of landscape painting such as composition, shape design, value and lighting, color theory, grouping and simplification, texturizing.
